The Ciphers

Moscow, 1956. Four women who are tied by the military past: work in the special department of the GRU, 11 years later converge again to conduct investigations and help the investigating authorities in especially complicated cases. With phenomenal analytical skills, Irina, Anna, Sophia and Katerina risk themselves, as well as the well-being of their own families, in order to get on the trail of criminals who threaten the lives of ordinary people and the whole country. Cipher is a Russian television detective based on the British mini-series The Bletchley Circle. The working title of the series is "The Ciphers". The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, Lean-M and the Pobeda Production Association. The premiere of the television series took place on March 11, 2019 on Channel One.

A House ‎for Rent with All the Inconveniences

Three Stories

A man goes to see his former schoolmate working at a boiler house and persuades him to burn in the furnace the corpse of his communal flat neighbor whom he has just murdered after a quarrel. An orphaned girl gets a job in the archives of the maternity home to find out the identity of her mother who abandoned her years earlier. She finds her, befriends her and takes the first opportunity to throw her into the sea. An old intellectual tries to explain to the neighbor’s five-year-old daughter “all the abomination of her lumpen existence”. The girl feeling hurt for her mother decides to poison the old man with arsenic.

When hubby suddenly drops dead, however, Natalija’s narrow life of cows and rails finally starts opening up. Dumping his body at the local hospital, dropping by church to say a few prayers and trading in the cow for a pet goat, she slowly eliminates all trace of his former hold on her, searching out a new life in the freedom that emerges.
